Exactly one year ago, I started building my portfolio and taking family and wedding photos for other people. I asked close friends if they would let me take their portraits, and I was happy to receive donations. I have spent hours reading photography tutorials (it's kinda like eating good chocolate). Some of my favorites include: DigitalPhotographySchool.com and Click it Up a Notch. In this short time period I have grown as a photographer and I now have a stockpile of photographs to organize and add to my portfolio and use for my website. I am proud of my accomplishments, as small as they might be, it is a giant step towards self improvement.
I entered 4 pictures as an amateur in the Amador County Fair and I received 3 first place ribbons and a second place ribbon this year. Taking First and second in the same category :). Next year I get to enter photographs as an advanced amateur, and I will be entering my photos in Calaveras County Fair as well.
In addition, I won grand prize for The 20th Annual Great Mother Lode Pet Photo Contest by the Amador Ledger Dispatch. Not only were my kids excited to see their kitten in the paper, but I earned a $100 gift card to the grocery store too.
Through friendships I have taken pictures of three different weddings in the cute historic town of Volcano, California. I'm excited to say that I'm taking photos for a fourth wedding in two weeks!
I love that I'm getting the experience and opportunity. I've had quite the positive response from others to take their family portraits for the holidays. Every time I post a set of photos from a photo session, I get a new session. Through word of mouth and social networking, I have received a tremendous response. For me, it's very exciting to know that others like my work and cherish the photos that I give them. I put a lot of time and energy into my work.
Most importantly, I need to thank my friend Jamy Beecher of Jamy Beecher Photography, with her guidance and encouragement she has helped shine the light down my pathway. Without her support it would take me a lot longer to get to my current position. She is an amazing individual and a traveling photographer who specializes in weddings and family portraiture. Also, my dear friend Brandy Hawkins of Brandy Hawkins Photography is always just a phone call away when it comes to a question. She is a locat Amador County Photographer as well, she takes amazing infant portraits!
Thank you for all the positive feedback. Look forward to "clickin" with ya!
